This is my first blog post, so please bear with me while I tell you a little about myself and what I would like to do with this blog. I am the author of two books 'Stories: Past, Present and Future' and 'Passages,' both of which are available on http://www.amazon.ca , Ebay, http://www.google.ca and other sites, both in Canada and the U.S. I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada with my husband, son and two cats, Harpo and Chico.
Why, it would be fair to ask, is the title of the blog Words and Music? The answer is simple: writing, reading and music are my passions. I am an author and I also sing classical music. I intend to use this blog to explore questions about writing, books and music. (Perhaps the occasional cat story may creep in, as well, but not often as they are like your co-workers' stories of their kids-great once or twice, but a steady diet is tedious. )
My recent book, 'Passages,' is about my grandparents who homesteaded in the Fraser Valley in British Columbia, Canada. (See picture.) My grandfather looked for suitable farming land in the U.S,, Australia, Eastern Canada and finally found it in B.C. Their story has drama, adventure, travel and tragedy, but also friendship, romance and hope. The best part of the story is that it happened to real people in a time not so very long ago. If you have an interest in what immigrants faced in coming to Canada, read 'Passages,' If you have an interest in reading short stories with a bit of a different flair, try 'Stories: Past, Present and Future.'
So, please give the books a try and let me know what you think. On a parting note, you can read reviews of 'Passages' and 'Short Stories: Past, Present and Future' on my website www.annehamre.com. If you look under About the Book, you will find them there.
